Biography
Michelle Stitz, a native Californian from the Los Angeles area, received her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art with specializations in Painting and Printmaking from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Being drawn to the old french traditions in printmaking, She studied for one year under the guidance of master printmaker James Lerouquet at the L'Universite de Bordeaux in southern France. In addition, to further her international education, Stitz completed a one month artist residency at La Posada del Morro Verge in Brazil with a strong focus on exploring new approaches to painting. Stitz regularly exhibits nationwide and has shown at galleries including Koelsh in Houston, David Lusk in Memphis, Cecile Moochnek in Berkeley and Garson Baker, New York. Her work can also be found at many national and international art expos such as Flow, Miami, The Palm Springs International Art Fair, or Art Chicago, as well as in small Bay Area galleries like Many Hands, Santa Cruz. She is represented by Julie Baker Fine Art in Nevada City, California and Milo Gallery in Los Angeles.

In recent ongoing series' Mare Tranquillitatis, Celles-ci ne sont pas des Cauchemares, and The Forest series, Stitz manipulates transparent resin, obscuring or illuminating images to explore the relations between ones inner and outer worlds. This body of work has received critical acclaim in numerous publications, most notably in Artweek where her works were called "pieces of sublime beauty".

Michelle Stitz maintains a studio in Santa Cruz, California, where she has been an active artist resident for 12 years.
