Biography
The art of Trine Wejp-Olsen imagines a world far away from our reality, a mysterious place akin to a child's fairytale or myth. Working on both canvas and paper, she exposes a hidden universe, where creatures and nature not only co-exist, but become entwined in one another. The trees and plants that inhabit her world are as strong a force as the animals among them. It's a surreal dreamlike landscape she creates, focusing on the power of nature and the feminine beauty of creation, that quietly exists somewhere else.

"I have since childhood enjoyed stories, and never given up on them. This is how my work has quite a sense of narration, with a narrative similar to what one might find in the stories of the fairy tales and myths. It is the mysterious layers and symbolic meaning in the details that I am attracted to. In my practice as an artist, my attempt is to capture "that other world", a parallel world that I find myself often looking for in our busy-logic lives".

Trine Wejp-Olsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Otis College of Art and Design where she earned her BFA. She has exhibited widely throughout Denmark and California.
