Milo Gallery is pleased to exhibit the work of Trine Wejp-Olsen and of René Vasquez in the show "Wild Things".
Both artists imagine a world far away from our reality, a mysterious place more akin to a child's fairytale or myth. Wejp-Olsen, working in paint on canvas and paper, and Vasquez, working in pencil on wood, expose a hidden universe, a wild place where creatures and nature not only co-exist, but become entwined in one another. The trees and plants that inhabit their worlds are as strong a force as the animals and men among them. Wejp-Olsen focuses on the power of nature, the feminine beauty of creation, while Vasquez focuses on the male's position in this world. They share a surreal vision of a dreamlike landscape that quietly exists somewhere else.
Trine Wejp-Olsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Otis College of Art and Design where she earned her BFA. She has exhibited widely throughout Denmark and California, and had her first solo show last year in New York at Nancy Margolis Gallery in Chelsea. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
René Vasquez is a Los Angeles native. He attended Art Center College of Design, and has had numerous exhibits in California, Arizona, Miami and New York. His work has graced several album covers for independent bands and record labels. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
